PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) on Monday observed World Water Day, urging the people to save water to avert the looming crisis due to the highest ratio of water consumption.
The World Water Day is observed on March 23 every year. This year’s theme is “Valuing Water.” The WSSP organised an awareness session to create awareness and highlight problems and challenges being faced by the sanitation utility in water conservation and supply system.
General Manager (Operations) Riaz Ahmad Khan, Zonal Manager Engr Tariq Aziz, water expert Engr Humayun Mustafa and WSSP’s Citizen Liaison Cell’s Manager Muhammad Ismail shed light on efforts of WSSP in the supply of water. Khan said that WSSP had been working on the replacement of old and rusted pipeline since its inception. “The WSSP has replaced more than 90 kilometers of the pipeline,” he said. To ensure the provision of clean drinking water, he said, WSSP’s portable lab had been testing water quality. “The WSSP immediately replaces water supply line in localities where water is found contaminated,” he said.
“We have recently replaced machinery at 32 tube-wells,” he said, adding that WSSP is paying millions in terms of electricity bills and appealed to the people save water. He urged the people to pay bills as the revenue generated through municipal services bills were being used for reconstruction of water supply and drainage system.
The official asked the people to construct water storage tanks in houses so that they did not face any problem in case tube-well in their localities went out of order. He said that WSSP has been working jointly with Irrigation Department to keep canals clean.
Dera Ismail Khan: The day 2022 was observed here. The WSSC organized events and walks to create awareness among the masses. The speakers including Ch Attaullah, head of WSS, and others spoke on the occasion. They stressed the need to focus on the sustained management of clean water resources in the communities.
