Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) is providing municipal services to the urban UCs in District Peshawar. To ensure a sustainable clean environment in Peshawar district, WSSP has established a Community Liaison Cell (CLC), which closely coordinates and interacts with the community to support WSSP operations. Through community partnerships, the CLC has taken the initiative to establish model streets in their operational area.
Initially, WSSP established four model streets, which received appreciation from the government and public. This success led to suggestions for enhancing and replicating the idea throughout District Peshawar. So far, WSSP, through community partnerships, has established 78 model streets in the district.
Under this initiative, WSSP is committed to providing accurate municipal services, raising awareness about WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and developing awareness messages through paintings. Meanwhile, the public has taken responsibility for improved behavior in water conservation, waste management, and tariff payment.
To gain public attention and motivation, residents have contributed to the beautification of the streets by planting greenery, placing plants in pots and racks, and providing timely watering to keep them fresh. This has created a sense of ownership among the public while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the living environment.
To further enhance the Model Street initiative, WSSP appeals to the public, elected members, and all stakeholders to support this approach. Through mutual partnership, the goal is to make Peshawar a Model District.
